Alright alright.. I admit it. I'm a f#cking JUNKIE, not just any junkie but a SEAWEED junkie! I guess all of you know the seaweed salad you can order in just about any Japanese restaurants or take-away. The thing is, the one they sell there is 90% of the time not even a freshly made seaweed salad, they buy their seaweed salad just straight away from the Asian supermarket from the FREEZE-department :| I know.. SHOCKING right?! It's loaded with sugar and E-numbers, not a really healthy portion of weed eh?! Therefore I always like to make my own seaweed salad, It's really super super EASY to make and even much more tastier too! My friends even ask me if I can make this salad whenever I'm throwing my dinner parties! EVEN when I'm not doing Asian cuisine! I'm just sayin' ..
Scroll down for the recipe or click HERE.
What do you need for 2-3 persons as a side dish
- 2 hands of dried seaweed
- cold water
- 2 spoons of Japanese Mirin
- 3 spoons of Soy sauce (I use Kikkoman)
- 1 1/2 spoon of Sesame oil
- 1 lemon
What do I do?
Put the dried seaweed in a big bowl, and add cold water to it, the seaweed will soak up all the water so be generous with the water! Meanwhile you can start making the dressing, mix the soysauce, mirin, lemon juice and sesame-oil in a separate bowl, add the sesameseeds and some finely chopped red pepper (Only if you like it spicy..You know me..I like to spice up ANY dish). Drain the seaweed after 10 -15 minutes and pour the dressing all over the seaweed and mix everything well.
TADAAA!! you're done! really.. this is it! Enjoy!
* you can also add some cucumber and some finely chopped iceberg lettuce to it to make the salad bigger but lighter in taste!
Besides that this dish is super delish it's super super healthy too, there are some great things you should know of seaweed. Go check out my seaweed tab HERE to learn more about this great healthy 'weed'.
You can wake me up in the middle of the night for some nice pieces of fresh juicy Pineapple!.. oke.. wait..maybe not really wake me.. but you know what I mean right?! I'm just crazy about this creative looking fruit, I even remember that years ago D&G even sold shirt with a print of just a pineapple on it and it was a total hit! I guess sometimes creativity is just comes literally on your plate! You might think my pineapple looks kinda dried out, but I left mine to close to the heater, so what suppose to be strong green leaves on top of the fruit is therefore a bit dried out..Woops!
Pineapple is great to make smoothies with. It's been a while I've been making smoothies..that's actually because mine fell from the kitchen counter and I don't know why I never bought a new one.. actually..while I'm writing this I'm thinking I really have to get myself a new blender!! OMG.. YES .. haha..so I can make my super healthy delicious smoothies again!!! HAHA it's crazy.. as if I'm inspiring myself ..just RIGHT NOW! uh Oke where was I. Oh yeah..the pineapple.. there are some great things you should know about this exotic juicy fruit..
Did you know that Pineapples are loaded with vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, C, B1, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium, this fruit is by the way also low in fat and cholesterol and consists all the nutrients that promote good health.
I personally think a good healthy smile stands for a good healthy person, I mean.. really.. a bad breath or bad teeth is just such a turn-off! Gross.. What people tend to forget is looking after their gum..If a person has unhealthy gums, his/her teeth would be in bad condition, and eventually will fall out..! That's like so not sexy :| Eating pineapple will strengthen your gums that will help keeping your teeth strong and healthy! Due to the enzymes in pineapples, people who have a hard time digesting meats and protein rich foods can benefit from eating pineapples with their meals or as a dessert to help break down the proteins easier in their digestive tract. Let's not forget 1 important thing here, you'll only get all the right nutrients from this golden-boy when you eat him fresh, not when you buy a can of pineapple which is drained in a sugar syrup ..duh!
I love you 'streets-of-Amsterdam'
I love to start my day with a nice strong black coffee! I only drink my coffee two ways. Black or Iced..as it's still freezing cold (when will it stop..really?!) I'm stuck with my Coffee Americano! I've been so busy lately I really can't start my day without this cup of liquid fuel! Have a nice day!
As I don't want to stop myself from eating garlic cause it's so flavourful to just about any dish AND hard to prevent eating it.. I always make sure I have these in my bag! Really can't imagine my life without 'After Garlic'! Whoever invented this product is a f#cking Genius! I mean.. there are a few things in life which can make me feel incredible insecure whenever I'm out surrounded by people..or imagine having a important business meeting..really whatever social event.. Wondering if you're having a bad breath is just SO annoying!! I think everybody can relate to that!? If you never asked yourself that question you probably already do have a bad breath! :|
You can buy these packages of 'fresh-breath' at many stores for just 2,99 Euro! You'll find them in 'Albert Heijn', 'Etos', 'DA' 'Kruidvat', 'De Tuinen' and 'Gezond en Welzijn'.
Stop avoiding garlic.. Start buying these and you'll never feel uncomfortable again..and most important.. don't bother the people around you with a bad breath.
I made myself a super healthy vegan dish, Garlic-Coriander-Cauliflower! The funny thing was, while I was prepping this dish I of course made some ' in-the-making pictures' and when I posted it on 'Instagram' my lovely friend S. asked me on 'Instagram' if she could join me for dinner, duhh of course! She's more then welcome, love her! Only freaky part was that She literally stood in my house just 5 minutes after texting her back! Hmm..Spontaneous or not.. This is officially my first Instagram-Date! haha. This dish is really easy to make and super healthy, you can eat this dish warm but it's also super delish eating it cooled of the next day to upgrade your salad or so. So no need to cut the cauliflower in half, just finish it all up, you really won't regret it! Serve this as a side dish, or like I did with some smoked salmon on the side, Or eat this together with a nicely grilled piece of salmon, chicken or steak and you're also done ! :D
Do you want to make this too? Scroll down.
Move your sexy ass to the store and get these ingredients:
1 bunch of coriander
1 lot's of Garlic
some salt & pepper to taste
* Option is to add a red pepper if you like to spice this dish up
- Preheat the oven on 220 Celcius
Cut the cauliflower in little pieces (not to small not to big), chop the onion and 4 gloves of garlic (leave the skin on) very rough. Set this aside.
Get some more garlic and get rid of the skin, and blend it with the coriander, use the ugly part to blend. We need the leavy part later of the coriander!
Get a nice big wok on high fire, and add the paste of garlic and coriander together with some coconut oil. When you here it crisp add the chopped garlic and onion (and red pepper, if you like it spicy). stir this for half a minute and then add the cauliflower and mix this all in with the herbs on max fire. After a few minutes add a shot of soy sauce, stir it well for 2-3 minutes. Get it of the stove and place everything on a baking tray! Set the timer on 10 minutes, meanwhile chop some coriander leaves and sprinkle that on top of the dish the LAST 1 more minute. (otherwise the leaves will burn and be ugly looking) OOoohh the smell is just amazing!
I love flowers..roses, violins, orchids... but another flower I really adore is the 'Cauliflower'! Time to highlight this beautiful veggie! This stunning off-white looking veggie is really worthwhile adding to your grocery cart! Why? Well let me tell you why. The cauliflower has a low carbohydrate content and therefor a great substitute for potatoes or do what I do, grate your cauliflower to be the substitute for regular rice, really, all my friends LOVE it when I make my version of fried-'rice'! Another thing I like about this veggie is that it's also super tasty just to eat them RRRRrrraw...great to up-lift your salads! When you heat them up they're taste turn into a soft sweetness..MMmm.. Besides the variety of what you can do with this veggie there are some great things you should know about the cauliflower too..
Did you know that a diet high in cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower has been been linked to a significant reduction in the risk of cancer, especially prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, and bladder cancer. Cauliflower is also a great source of dietary fiber, which is essential for optimal ..you know.. flushing of the body ;) Another great thing you should know is that this big flower-bomb even helps to lower your cholesterol! Cauliflower also contains a high amount of antioxidants, which are essential for the body's overall health and help to prevent heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Antioxidants are also essential in destroying free radicals so you'll keep your great fabulous sexy looks even longer! Seriously.. what's not to like about this veggie. I'll forgive this flower that it doesn't smell like roses ;)
This, my friends, is really one of my favourite shops in town! It's called 'De Volkskruidentuin' (in English: The Herb Garden) another good thing is that they're practically my neighbours! I come here as long as I remember, this is a real hidden gem in Amsterdam of which I thought I really needed to share this with you hotties! YES even if you're not from around. This shop is in the middle of the 'Kinkerstraat' nr 142, and has all the herbs, oils, nuts, tea, rice, couscous, dried fruits.. the list is just endless! One of the things I always specially come back for is the verveine tea they sell here, the leaves aren't processed but dried in one piece, so it really looks fabulous when you serve your verveine tea in a seethrough glass.
If you're cooking Asian, Mediterranean, Indian..whatever cuisine.. you'll find all the herbs & spices here for sure! Also a great thing about this shop is that the prices are very 'friendly'. Only thing you should know is you can only pay in cash here! yeah I know quite annoying..But no worries! There's a cash machine just 10 meter away from the store! They're open from monday till saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, yeah I know.. it would be better if they would open till 18:00 right? hint hint .. ;)
Maybe we'll run in each other here soon ..Check out the pictures below to get a glimpse of this amazing shop!
I wasn't really feeling hungry last night and because I wanted to go out for a nice running-session I thought to make myself something light and not so heavy on the body! I bought some nice smoked salmon this weekend, and I was looking through my kitchen cabinets what I could combine with it. Hmmm Quinoa ?! I normally boil my quinoa in mushroom stock instead of water, but I still had some (2 days old) white wine left in the fridge, that's no good anyway for drinking so I finished the white wine half/half with water with some salt and pepper instead! Never done this before.. but I thought let's give this a try, and OMFG this turned out really FANTASTIC! what a successful experiment! I added some mintleaves, dille, tomatoes and a bit of horseradish! really guys.. this is so delish and easy to make!
