Rose's Cantina has opened it's doors just recently. Casper Reinders, who already owns successful restaurants 'Lion Noir' and 'Bocinq' can now add 1 more restaurant to his list! He decided to team up with Jim Dobson & Daniel Uzcudun to give the old 'Rose’s Cantina' an 'upgrade' with a surprising Pan American international menu and a new exciting interior. I must say, when I walked in the place I was quite surprised. I really had no idea that the place would be so big! I mean from the outside you really can't tell it runs all the way through the back so far.
They gave us a nice seat somewhere more in the back (restaurant area) and we started of with a Pina Colada. stupid thing is I'm actually not a big Pina Colada fan but the waitress asked it so enthusiastic I just said. YES why not give me that pina colada! Only thing is that it reminded me the reason why I never order cocktails when I'm out for dinner, I think you can't really enjoy the food properly when you have a cocktail with such a strong coconut taste, and by the way because of the coconut milk you feel really stuffed.
In what they call the Pan American international menu looks fine to me. Because we weren't that hungry we decided to share our starter, we chose the EMPANADAS 7.50 Euro Spicy South American stuffed pastries with beef, cooked with peppers, onions and tomato. Served with tomato salsa and smoked pepper mayonnaise. We both thought that this dish wasn't really good, I found the dough to dry and the filling not seasoned enough.
My friend M. ordered the ENCHILADAS 16.50 Euro for the main, Tortilla rolled around vegetarian filling, smothered with tomato sauce, cheddar cheese and baked in the oven. Accompanied by sour cream and black beans. M. only ate half of her plate, she found it way to cheesy, creamy and really just full of black beans, so I took a bite of her dish and I had to agree with her unfortunately. Although the menu says what's in.. you would have expect maybe something like grilled veggies or jalapeño peppers.. whatever..just SOMETHING what breaks the beans and cheese flavour..I mean these days being a vegetarian doesn't have to be this boring..? I had the ROSES GRILL RIB EYE STEAK (200gr) 24,- Euro Chargrilled, all served with oven baked potatoes, vegetables and Chimichurri. which was really well prepared, I ate the whole thing! super tender and I just love the 'grill' flavour MMMmm.. we also ordered the home fries on the side, which were not really home-made... quite disappointing. We didn't feel like having dessert..cause we we're going for cocktails in the 'Butcher', but I decided to order a coffee instead to give me a quick energy boost, and now the most disappointing part.. they gave me coffee from... 'Douwe Egberts' yes..people the 'Dutch-Home-Super Market-Brand' for Coffee.. This is just something you don't want when you're away from home. It could have been coffee from any brand.. but just not this one.. The thing is..the restaurant really looks great, really a fantastic ambience, GREAT location and the service is really is nice and helpful. But eventually you're a night out to eat something Delicious.... but unfortunately the food wasn't really doing it for us..Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes.. or maybe it's just not my type of cuisine..anyway..I won't come back here for the food. Maybe I'll just have drinks here next time.
